Board of Supervisors,
As a citizen of Roanoke County, I am opposed to a subject on the consent agenda to
allow the establishment of restrictions for abortion clinics within the county. This item
should be removed from a consent agenda to allow public comment on the possibility
of prohibiting abortion clinics within the county. This is a public health concern and
eliminating the access may have a significant impact on the lives of not just women
but families in general. Not everyone has the ability to travel for a procedure that may
be necessary due to potential health risks to a woman. Public feedback for an
important restriction within our county should be encouraged not suppressed which is
effectively what the consent agenda allows. Transparency shows respect for our
citizens. The consent agenda does not. Please reconsider your actions to allow public
comment on this very important issue.
