Mr. Chambliss reported that 1 and 1/2 years ago, the SPCA notified the
Valley governments that it was getting out of the impoundment business, that the would
be constructing a new facility, and bids were obtained. The local governments were
notified that the SPCA suggested that a regional impoundment facility could be built on or
adjacent to their property that could be operated by them. They have offered a two year
operating contact for impoundment and euthanasia until a new facility can be constructed.
The estimate for a new facility is $1.3 million and would not include all facilities needed.
The present SPCA location would be tight but additional adjacent land may be purchased.
