The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day atthe
Roanoke County Administration Center, this being a special meeting for the purpose of
hearing funding requests from cultural, tourism, and other agencies for the fiscal year
2005-2006 budget.
IN RE: CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Altizer called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. The roll call was
taken.

IN RE: OPENING CEREMONIES
The invocation was given by John M. Chambliss, Assistant County
Administrator. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present.

IN RE: FUNDING REQUESTS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2005-2006 BUDGET
1. Cultural, Tourism, and Other Agencies
Chairman Altizer advised that this time had been set aside for cultural,
tourism, and other agencies to submit funding requests to the Board for the 2005-2006
budget. The agencies were called to speak in reverse alphabetical order. The following
representatives spoke on behalf of their agencies: (1) Michael Quinn and Amy Moore,
Young Audiences of Virginia, Inc.: $15,600; (2) Warren Via, Williamson Road Area
Business Association: $10,000; (3) Ron Crawford, Western Virginia Land Trust/Read
Mountain Alliance: $1,000; (4) Roger Holnback, Western Virginia Land Trust: $10,000;
(5) Robert Dills and Blair Neal, Virginia Museum of Transportation: $10,000; (6) Peter
Lampman, Virginia Amateur Sports: $50,000; (7) William Griffin, Southeast Rural
Community Assistance Project, Inc.: $1,000; (8) Roy Baldwin, Small Business
Development Center: $5,000; (9) Stewart Hill, Science Museum of Western Virginia:
$20,000; (10) Karensa Waid, Salem Food Pantry: $15,000; (11) Paul Chambers,
Roanoke Symphony: $10,000;(12)Judy Clark, Opera Roanoke: $1,500; (13) Lisa
Ison, New Century Venture Center: $10,000; (14) David Jobe, Mill Mountain Zoo –
capital request: $19,000; (15) David Jobe, Mill Mountain Zoo: $8,000; (16) Jere Lee

IN RE: REPORTS AND INQUIRIES OF BOARD MEMBERS
Supervisor Church:
(1) He expressed his appreciation to the agency
representatives for their presentations and noted that it was not easy to make funding
requests. He advised that the Board will give careful consideration to each agency’s
request and stated that he wished the Board was able to do more to assist them. (2) He
requested a discussion with Mr. Hodge regarding a request he had received from Mr.
Harvey in North Lakes. (3) He reported that two citizens had problems contacting the
Board via either e-mail or voice mail and requested that this issue be investigated.
IN RE: ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Altizer adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m. until Tuesday, April
12, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. for the purpose of a joint meeting with Roanoke City Council,
