Roanoke, VA 24015 I June 20, 1984 The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day at the Roanoke Civic Center with the City of Roanoke and the Town of Vinton for the purpose of a joint public hearing to consider a rate increase request by Roanoke Valley Cablevision, Inc. This was an adjourned meeting from Friday, June 15, 1984. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER Mayor of the City of Roanoke, Noel Taylor, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. The roll call was taken individually by the Clerks of the City of Roanoke, Roanoke I County, and the Town of Vinton. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman, Harry C. Nickens, Supervisors Alan H. Brittle, Steven A. McGraw, Gary J. Minter MEMBERS ABSENT: vice Chairman, Athena E. Burton IN RE: OPENING CEREMONIES The invocation was offered by Mayor Taylor. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present. IN RE: ELECTION OF A PRESIDING OFFICER City Councilman Harvey moved that Mayor Taylor be I nominated as Presiding Officer over the meeting. The motion was seconded and carried by a unanmous voice vote. Mayor Taylor was elected as the Presiding Officer by the following roll call vote: AYES: Supervisors McGraw, Minter, Brittle, Nickens NAYS: None ABSENT: Supervsor Burton - ~ "..- 6-20-84 66 1 · RECEIPT OF PUBLIC COMMENT ON PERMITTING ROANOKE VALLEY CABLEVISION, INC. TO INCREASE ITS MONTHLY CHARGES FOR BASIC SERVICE, RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL FOR THE FIRST SET, AND FOR EACH ADDITIONAL SET, INCLUDING CONVERTER. I APPROVED Mayor Taylor explained that the Roanoke Valley Cablevision Committee recommended the following rate increases pursuant to their meetings of May 11 & 17, 1984: increase in the monthly charge for the first set including converter for basic service (residential and commercial) of not more than an additional $.50 per month; and an increase in the monthly charge for each additional set including converter for basic service (residential) of not more than an additional $2.25 per month. Mr. Bernie Langheim, General Manager of Roanoke Valley Cablevision, and Mr: Robert E. Glenn, Attorney for Roanoke Valley first rate increase request in the eight years of service. I Cablevision, presented statements indicating that this is the Roanoke County representatives to the Cablevision Committee are Donald R. Flanders, County Administrator; and Supervisors Athena E. Burton and Gary J. Minter. Mr. Howard E. Musser, Vice Mayor of the City of Roanoke and Chairman of the Roanoke Valley Cablevision Committee, recommended extension of the services and the monthly rate increases of $.50 and $2.25. There were no citizen objections. Following discussion and questions from the elected officials, motions were made and carried by the City of Roanoke and the Town of Vinton to concur with the Cablevision Committee recommendations. Supervisor Minter moved that Roanoke County concur with the Committee's recommendations, and the motion carried by the followiong roll I call vote: AYES: Supervisors McGraw, Minter, Brittle, Nickens NAYS: None ABSENT: Supervisor Burton ~ 66 2 6-20-84 IN RE: ADJOURNMENT At 8:58 p.m., Mayor Taylor adjourned the meeting.
