The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day
in open session in the Conference Room, Roanoke County Administrator's Office
at 430 Clay Street, Salem, Virginia, this being a special meeting of the Board
on this 15th day of August, 1981.
Members present: Chairman Robert E. Myers, Vice Chairman Lawrence E.
Terry and Supervisors May W. Johnson, Edward C. Park, Jr. and T. M. White
IN RE:
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Myers called the meeting to order at 9: 30 a.m.
IN RE:
COURTHOUSE IMPROVEMENTS
The Board received a report (filed with the minutes of this meeting)
from the Administrator and Director of Finance on alternative financing for
Courthouse improvements that have been ordered.
IN RE:
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Supervisor May W. Johnson moved that the Board recess for Executive
session to discuss legal and real estate matters at 9:45 a.m.; adopted by
unanimous voice vote.
IN RE:
OPEN SESSION
On motion of Supervisor Terry and a unanimous voice vote, the Board
reconvened in open session at 10:15 a.m.
At this point, Chairman Myers relinquished the gavel and chairmanship
to Lawrence Terry, Vice Chairman.
IN RE:
COURTHOUSE EXPANSION
Chairman Myers moved that the representatives from the architectural
firm of VVKR be directed to submit a feasibility report to the Board on the
construction of a "free-standing" courthouse on the block of land which is the
present site of the old courthouse and the new jail.

He further moved that the architects develop their report keeping the
future use of the old courthouse as administrative offices for the County as
an alternative.
