The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day
in open session in the Conference Room of the County Administrator's Office
at 430 Clay Street, Salem, Virginia, this being the continuation of an
adjourned meeting of March 9, 1982.
Members present: Chairman Edward L. Park, Jr., Vice-Chairman
Athena E. Burton, and Supervisors May W. Johnson and Gary J. Minter.
Members Absent: Supervisor Robert E. Myers
IN RE:
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Park at 2:10 p.m.
IN RE:
INTERVIEWS OF ARCHITECTS
I
Chairman Park stated the purpose of the meeting was to interview
architects for renovation of the Mount Vernon School project. Upon completior
the school will become administrative offices for Roanoke County.
The architects were previously asked for a 20-minute presentation
on (1) how you would address the items in the scope of work and any recommen-
dations as to innovative methods of accelerating work (2) an estimate as to
cost of renovation (3) an analysis as to the time schedule to complete the
project, and (4) your proposed fee schedule.
I The five architectural firms, VVKR Inc.; Sherertz, Franklin, Crawfor
I & Shaffner; Kinsey, Shane & Associates, Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern; and
Smithey & Boynton estimated costs ranging from $372,000 to $550,000 for
renovation.

Renovations for the building include new heating and air-conditionir~
systems, enclosing an open area under a portion of the building, new lighting I

On motion of Supervisor Burton and a unanimous voice vote, the
Board went into Executive session at 4:35 p.m. to discuss legal, personnel,

RECONVENEMENT
On motion of Supervisor Minter and a unanimous voice vote, the
meeting reconvened in open session at 6:10 p.m.

CONTINUED MEETING
Chairman Burton stated that a recommendation has been made that
the next regular meeting of the Board, March 23rd convene at 2:00 p.m.;
Supervisor Minter moved to convene the meeting at 2:00 p.m. on March 23rd
