The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day
in open session in the Board Room, Roanoke County School Administration
Buildin6, S. College Avenue, Salem, Virginia, this being a special meeting
of the Board on this 29th day of June, 1981.
Members present: Chairman Robert E. Myers, Vice Chairman Lawrence
E. Terry, and Supervisors May W. Johnson, Edward C. Park, Jr. and T. M. White.
IN RE:
NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING
A waiver to any defects in the notice of a special meeting of the
Board of Supervisors if filed with the minutes of this meeting.
IN RE:
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Myers called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and stated
he had a letter from Leonard Pick, Secretary, Roanoke County Electoral Board,
requesting the Board to reconsider the date of a public hearing on the matter
of County redistricting.
On motion of Supervisor Johnson and a unanimous voice vote, the
Board moved to hold a public hearing for redistricting on July 21, 1981 at
7:00 p.m. at the Salem-Roanoke County Civic Center.
IN RE:
OUT OF TOWN TRAVEL REQUESTS
Bruce Mayer, Interim County Administrator, presented three travel
requests for consideration; following:
(1) Roy B. Willett, Judge
Nat'l Juvenile Court Judges' Conferenc
July 11-16, 1981.
(2) R. Wayne Compton, Commissioner of Revenue - and Virginia B.
Farrow, Chief Deputy - Charlottesville, Va.--July 15-17, 1981.
(3) Elizabeth Stokes--Williamsburg, Va. -- Aug. 6-8, 1981.
On motion of Supervisor Johnson and a unanimous voice vote, the
preceding three travel requests were approved.

IN RE:
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 6:00 p.m. on motion of Supervisor Terry and a unanimous voice vote
the Board went into Executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
IN RE:
OPEN SESSION
At 6:30 p.m. the Board reconvened in open session. On motion of
Supervisor Park and a unanimous voice vote~ the Board terminated the employment
of Roanoke County Fire Coordinator Robert N. Monroe~ effective immediately.
The Board further directed Interim County Administrator Bruce Mayer to hold
a meeting on June 30 with the Fire Chief's Board in order that they select an
interim fire coordinator to serve in that capacity until the position is
permanently filled. The Board further directed that the interim fire coordi-
nator selected at that meeting be paid the same salary as Robert Monroe would
receive if he was still employed as County Fire Coordinator.

ADJOURNMENT
On motion of Supervisor Johnson and a unanimous voice vote~ the
meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
