The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors and the Volunteer Fire
Chiefs met for a dinner meeting this evening at 6:00 p.m. at Ye Olde English Inn,
Roanoke, Virginia, this being a special meeting held on the third Tuesday of
December, 1983.
IN RE:
CALL TO ORDER
After dinner Chairman, May W. Johnson called the meeting to order
and expressed appreciation to the Fire Chiefs for services rendered to the citizens
of Roanoke County.

Chief Don Gillispie thanked the Board of Supervisors and the County
Administration for their support over the last two years. He also expressed
appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the Board and relate the Volunteer
Fire Chiefs' concerns and interest to the Board.

The three major needs that the Chiefs' Association has agreed on
that should be addressed by the County Board were as follows:
1. Recommendation for the adoption of a Fire Code and a request
for help to enforce the Code.
2. Expression of the need for a fire hydrant system with the
understanding of limitations in extending this system as the water supply permits.
3. Outline of the need for a training facility.
