The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day
in open session at the Roanoke County Administration Center, Roanoke, Virginia,
this being an adjourned meeting from Tuesday, September 13, 1983.
IN RE:
CALL TO ORDER
At 2:10 Chairman Johnson called the meeting to order. The roll call
was taken:

Chairman, May W. Johnson; Vice Chairman, Harry C.
Nickens; Supervisors Athena E. Burton and Robert E.
Myers
M EM BERS ABSENT:
Supervisor Gary J. Minter
IN RE:
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Supervisor Burton moved to go into Executive Session pursuant to
the Code of Virginia, Section 2.1-344(a) (1), (2), and (6) to discuss personnel, real
estate, and legal matters. The motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. Supervisor
Myers left at 3:15 p.m. during this Executive Session.
IN RE:
OPEN SESSION
At 3:22 p.m. Supervisor Nickens moved to go into open session. The
motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. Supervisor Nickens moved the following
prepared resolution:
RESOLUTION NO. 83-172 RECOMMENDING AND
URGING THE INITIATION OF A PROJECT TO PROVIDE
INDUSTRIAL ACCESS TO A CERTAIN NEW INDUSTRIAL
PLANT TO BE LOCATED IN ROANOKE COUNTY
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia,
as follows:

That said Board, having duly considered the request and assurances
of AMP, Incorporated, respectfully urges and recommends to the Highway
Commission of Virginia that consideration be given, that immediate study be made,
and that a project be approved and initiated pursuant to the provisions of Section
33.1-221 of the Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, to provide approximately
2,700 feet of needed industrial access improvements to Old Hollins Road, Route
601, from the AMP, Incorporated property to Shadwell Drive, situate in Roanoke
County.
2. That Roanoke County does guarantee the expense of acquisition of
any and all right of way and the vesting thereof in the public agency, but does
request the Department of Highways and Transportation to acquire same, and does
further guarantee the adjustment of utility expenses necessary for the project,
and does hereby assure the Virginia Department Highways and Transportation that
such Department shall incur no expense for such items.
3. That the Clerk of this Board forthwith transmit certified copies of
this resolution together with any necessary appropriate supporting data to the
State Highway Commission of Virginia through the local office of the Virginia
Department of Highways.

IN RE:
WORK SESSIONS
Roanoke County Employees' Health Insurance Plan - Chairman Johnson
requested this work session. Personnel Director, Keith Cook, reviewed the proposed
language changes, rate structures, and excess insurance coverages. All these
proposed changes will be brought back to the Board Work Session at their regular
meeting on September 27, 1983.

ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Supervisor Burton moved to adjourn
the meeting, and the motion carried by a unanimous voice vote.
