Pursuant to the adjournment of the meeting of May 12, 1976, the Board of

Supervisors of Roanoke Cormty, Virginia, met this day in open session in the
Conference Roam of the Cormty Executive's Office at 306A East Main Street in
Salem, Virginia, for the purpose of approving the Roanoke Cormty School Board
budget for the fiscal year 1976-77.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman May W. Johnson, Vice-Chairman E. Deal Tompkins,
R. Wayne Compton, C. Lawrence Dodson and Robert E. Myers.
Chairman Johnson called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.
Mr. Arnold R. Burton, Superintendent of Roanoke Cormty Public Schools,
presented the School budget for the fiscal year 1976-77 in final form and person-
ally thanked the Supervisors for the time and effort involved in canprising said
budget.
Chairman Johnson reaffirmed the support of the Board of Supervisors for
the many man hours spent on the School budget.

RESOLUTION NO. 1510 APPROVING THE SCHOOL BOARD BUDGET FOR THE
1976-77 FISCAL YEAR.
WHEREAS, the Roanoke Cormty School Board has heretofore su1::.mi tted a proposed
budget to the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke Cormty in which said School Board
outlined the requirements of the school division for the 1976-77 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, after review of said budget and consideration thereof and certain
revisions having been made by the Board of Supervisors and the Roanoke Cormty
School Board, the said School Board adopted in final form a budget for the 1976-77
fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke Cormty desires to approve said
budget.
Nav, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke Cormty

that the Roanoke Cormty school budget for the 1976-77 fiscal year, attached heretc
as Exhibit A, be, and the same is hereby adopted as the budget for the Roanoke
Cormty school division for said year.
On notion of Supervisor Myers and adopted by the follcwing recorded vote:

IN RE:
RESOLUTION NO. 1511 SElTING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 1976-77
FISCAL YEAR Burx:;ET FOR ROANOKE COUNI'Y.
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has heretofore held public hearings and
discussions concerning all aspects of the County budget for the 1976-77 fiscal
year and has further approved the School Board budget for said fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, said Board desires to schedule a public hearing on the adoption of
the budget for the 1976-77 fiscal year.
NCW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County
that the County Executive be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to adver-
tise a public hearing to be held June 8, 1976, at a regular meeting of the Roanoke
County Board of Supervisors to be held at the Salem-Roanoke Valley Civic Center
at 7: 00 p.m. at which time the budget for the 1976-77 fiscal year will be adopted
by said Board.
BE IT FURI'HER RESOLVED that in advertising said proposed budget the County
Executive be, and he is directed to include the figures approved by this Board for
the School Board budget for said fiscal year and further to include the figures
established by said Board in corrputing the anticipated revenues and expenditures

for all County departments for said fiscal year.
The Clerk of this Board is directed to publish the proposed budget and notice
of hearing thereon as required by law, in a newspaper having a general circulation
in Roanoke County.
Said proposed budget and notice of hearing thereon shall be published and
posted at the front door of the Roanoke County Courthouse.
A copy of the proposed budget is on filed in the Clerk's Office of the Circui
Court of Roanoke County and at the County Executive's Office at 306A East Main
Street in Salem, Virginia.
On motion of Supervisor Dodson and adopted by the following recorded vote:

Mr. Campton, Mr. Dodson, Mr. Myers, Mr. Tompkins, Mrs. Johnson

IN RE:
REIEASE OF TITLE - FORI' LEWIS FIRE DEPAR'IMENT VEHICLE

Supervisor Myers moved that the Board release to Fort Lewis Fire Departm::mt
title to the 1963 Chevrolet carryall assigned to that station.
The motion was adopted by the following recorded vote:

IN RE:
PROCLAMATION
Chairrran Johnson advised the Board that she is proclaiming the month of June
to be "Clean-Up Roanoke County Month".

Mrs. Johnson urged all County citizens to participate in this cooperative
effort to create for visitors and travelers passing through Roanoke County a
clean and beautiful County.
IN RE:
TAX NarrCES
The County Executive advised the Board that the tax notices are canpleted

and will be in the mail shortly. He explained that in the past this process took
several weeks, but due to the tax notices being computerized through data process
ing, this is no longer true. The Director of Finance shewed the Supervisors a
sample form and also noted the enclosed, addressed envelope to expedite payment.
The Board scheduled a rreeting with Vosbeck, Vosbeck, Kendrick & Redinger,
Consulting Engineers for the County's proposed administrative canplex, for
Thursday afternoon, May 20, 1976 at 4:00 p.m.
This concluded the business before the Board at this tirre, and on the rrotion
of Supervisor Tanpkins and the unanirrous voice vote of the rrernbers, the rreeting
was adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
