ARC. HAS THE SUPPORT OF CONGRESSMAN BOUCHER. BOB WISE FROM WEST
VIRGINIA. CHAIRMAN OF SUBCOMMITTEE PUBLIC WORKS. HAS AGREED TO
HOLD HEARINGS ON THIS MATTER. DATES WILL BE SET LATER.

COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR'S COMMENTS: ~ ~,,
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Vinton community would like to rename Stonebridge Park #2
to honor an individual who has been instrumental in helping the
Town and the Eastern Part of Roanoke County.
The Dogwood Festival Committee would like to make this
announcement during the festivities on April 24.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission concurs in this
renaming and feels that a distinct name for Stonebridge Park #2
would assist in the identification of the Park and also show
community pride.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the renaming of the Park.

PROCLAMATION RENAMING BTONEBRIDGE PARR II
AS GOODS PARR IN HONOR OF
OTTO GOODS, FOIINDER OF THE VINTON DOGWOOD FESTIVAL
WHEREAS, the Vinton Dogwood Festival, which began as a fundraiser for the
William Byrd High School Band in 1955, has become one of the major events in the
Roanoke Valley; and
WHEREAS, Otto Goode, a resident of Vinton and of Roanoke County, was
responsible for the founding and original support of the Dogwood Festival, an event
which included the sale of dogwood trees, band competitions, and a beauty
pageant; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Goode has continued his participation in and support of the
Festival throughout the years, helping to make it one of the largest festivals in
Southwest Virginia; and
WHEREAS, this year, on the occasion of the 38th Annual Vinton Dogwood
Festival, the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors wishes to rename Stonebridge
Park II in honor of Otto Goode, in grateful appreciation for his civic efforts and his
dedication to his community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T PROCLAIMED, by H. Odell "Fuzzy" Minnix, Chairman
of the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, and Harry C. Nickens,
Supervisor, Vinton Magisterial District, that Stonebridge Park Il, located in Roanoke
County near the Town of Vinton, is hereby renamed GOODS PARK in honor of Otto
Goode, founder of the Vinton Dogwood Festival.
