AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Supporting the application of Simmons Airlines, an
American Eagle carrier requesting slots at Chicago O'Hare
International Airport to serve the Roanoke Regional Airport
COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR'S COMMENTS•
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION:
American Eagle has met with local businesses, agencies and governments to announce
that Simmons Airlines, an American Eagle carrier has filed an application with the U. S.
Department of Transportation requesting slots at Chicago O'Hare International Airport to
serve non-hub communities, including the Roanoke Regional Airport.
American Eagle wants to serve the Roanoke Valley with three daily non-stop, round-trip
flights to Chicago O'Hare. American Eagle has formerly served the Roanoke area before
they closed their hubs.
The Roanoke Regional Airport serves as the major airport in this part of the
Commonwealth of Virginia and additional flights to Chicago are needed by the business
community, especially R. R. Donnelley, which is based out of Chicago. These flights
would also provide connecting flights to other locations beyond Chicago.
Attached is information I received at the luncheon today.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopted the attached resolution of
support and forward it to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
