All personnel groups will move up one step on their respective salary scale each yeaz. 2. All personnel groups will receive at least a cost of living increase each year. 3. Each benchmazk* ranking of the teachers' salary scale will rank within the top 25 school divisions in Virginia. ., 4. Longevity steps for all personnel groups are to allow increases: - an additional $600.00 for 20 years of experience - an additional $1000.00 for 25 years of experience (Previously $800.00) - an additional $1200.00 for 30 years of experience (Previously $1000.00) - an additional $100.00 for each subsequent year of employment 5. The master's degrees supplements will rank within the top 25 school divisions in Virginia in the benchmazk* years. 6. Steps on the teachers' salary scale will correlate to the years of teaching experience up to yeaz 20. 7. Step number 20 will be 1.5 times the beginning step of the salary scale. 8. The average teacher salary will meet or exceed the national average. 9. What is our long-term capital plan for school buses? 2. Do we have any plan or strategy regarding upgrading teachers' salaries? 3. Do you consider your proposed plan for reducing class size in K through 2 (using assistant principals and special teachers) a permanent solution? 4. What items were reduced or eliminated by the $500,000 adjustment you made several weeks ago in your budget? 5. How do you explain the addition of more than 100 employees over the past four years in light of a static pupil population? 6. How much have you budgeted for legal services/fees and do you plan to continue your arrangement with Mr. Lacy? 7. Allen INTER MEMO O F F I C E ROANOKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO: Jerry Canada, Chairman Roanoke County School Board FROM: Joe McNamara, Chairman ~~9~-- Roanoke County Board of Supervisors DATE: April 26, 2000 SUBJECT: WORK SESSION REQUEST During the April 25, 2000 Roanoke County Board of Supervisors meeting, SupervisorJohnson, in accordance with the Rules of Organization and Procedures, requested a work session with the School Board to discuss the school budget. The purpose of this memo is to formally request, on behalf of the Board of Supervisors, the above work session. It is my understanding, based on the Construction Committee meeting of April 11, 2000, that both Boards are to be invited to the Construction Committee meeting on May 2, 2000. I might offer the possibility that we hold a budget work session immediately succeeding the Construction Committee meeting. I have requested my Board to provide advance notice of budget questions, which I will provide to you and Dr. Webertwenty-four hours prior to any scheduled work session. Thank you in advance for your efforts on behalf of the Roanoke County schools and the citizens of Roanoke County.
