To:
Mr. Joseph McNamara
From: Bob L. Johnson
Date: April 27, 2000
Subject: Work Session with the Roanoke County School Board
In response to your memo regarding budget questions for the School Board,
several issues that I would like to discuss are as follows:
1. What is our long-term capital plan for school buses?
2. Do we have any plan or strategy regarding upgrading teachers' salaries?
3. Do you consider your proposed plan for reducing class size in K through 2 (using
assistant principals and special teachers) a permanent solution?
4. What items were reduced or eliminated by the $500,000 adjustment you made
several weeks ago in your budget?
5. How do you explain the addition of more than 100 employees over the past four
years in light of a static pupil population?
6. How much have you budgeted for legal services/fees and do you plan to
continue your arrangement with Mr. Lacy?
7. Is it time for us to re-visit the original Blue Ribbon Commission Report regarding
schedules and dollar figures?
