Audio recordings of this meeting are on file. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER Chairman North called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Phil C. North; Supervisors George G. Assaid, Martha B. Hooker, David F. Radford and P. Jason Peters MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Daniel R. O’Donnell, County Administrator; Richard L. Caywood, Assistant County Administrator; Rebecca Owens, Assistant County Administrator; Peter S. Lubeck, Senior Assistant County Attorney; Deborah C. Jacks, Chief Deputy Clerk to the Board IN RE: NEW BUSINESS 1. Resolution appointing an Acting/Interim County Attorney (Phil C. North, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County) RESOLUTION 080619-1 APPOINTING AN ACTING COUNTY ATTORNEY WHEREAS, Ruth Ellen Kuhnel has advised the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County of her intention to take extended medical leave from the office of County Attorney; and WHEREAS, Chapter 7 of the Roanoke County Charter provides that the Board shall appoint a County Attorney who shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors and compensation of the County Attorney shall be fixed by the Board of Supervisors; and WHEREAS, Section 15.2-1542 of the Code of Virginia establishes the various duties and responsibilities of the County Attorney; and WHEREAS, an employment agreement between the Acting County Attorney and the Board of Supervisors has been negotiated. 310 August 6, 2019 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, hereby appoints Peter S. Lubeck, as Acting County Attorney to fill the vacancy in this office beginning August 6, 2019, until January 21, 2020, unless extended for thirty (30) day periods, as needed. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board hereby authorizes the Chairman to execute the attached Employment Agreement with the Acting County Attorney on behalf of the Board.
