Roanoke, Virginia 24018 November 17, 1993 The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day at the Roanoke County Administration Center, this being an adjourned meeting from November 16, 1993 for the purpose of touring the Spring Hollow Reservoir, the Dixie Caverns Landfill and the Roanoke Regional Airport. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER Chairman Minnix called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. KBLJERS PRESENT: Chairman H. . Odell "Fuzzy" Minnix, Vice:sChairman Lee B. Eddy, Supervisors Bob L. Johnson', ,~dward G.' Kohinke, Sr-;~, Harry C. -- Nickens -~~ KEKBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Elmer C. Hodge, County Administrator; Paul M. Mahoney, County Attorney; Joseph Obenshain, Sr. Assistant County Attorney; George Simpson, Dixie Caverns project Manager; Clifford Craig, utility Director; Anne Marie Green, Information Officer IN RE: RESPECT SETTING OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR CHARTER AKENDKENT--WITH TO ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD KEKBERS .A_ .. ..,.~;, County Attorney Paul Mahoney advised the Board of Supervisors that a public hearing would be necessary to amend the Roanoke County Charter to provide for the election of.. School Board members. Discussion followed_on, the merits of_, staggE!rede- ~ ,.... 774 November 17, 1993 terms versus all board members being elected at one time. Supervisor Nickens moved to set the public hearing for December 14, and that the charter amendment provide for all five School Board members to be elected in 1995. Supervisor Eddy advised he supported staggered terms. Supervisor Nickens' motion passed by the following recorded vote: AYES: Supervisors Johnson, Kohinke, Nickens, Minnix NAYS: Supervisor Eddy Mr. Mahoney was directed to prepared the necessary charter change legislation for presentation to the General Assembly. IN RE: TOUR The Board members toured Dixie Caverns Landfill where they wer~ updated on the cleanup by Project Manager George Simpson. They then toured the Spring Hollow Reservoir Project. Updating them on this project were Clifford Craig, John Bradshaw, Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern; and Skip Lord, PCL, project manager for construction of the dam. They also toured the Roanoke Regional Airport with Jacqueline Shuck, Director of the airport. Executive IN RE: ADJOURNMENT: At 12: 05 p.m., Chairman Minnix declared :the meeting adjourned. þ I H.
