3/26/1986 - Special , 592 Roanoke County Board of Supervisors Roanoke County Administration Center 3738 Brambleton Avenue, SW Roanoke, Virginia 24015 March 26, 1986 The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day at the Roanoke County Administration Center, this being an adjourned meeting from Tuesday, March 25, 1986, for the signing of the Roanoke County Charter by Governor Gerald L. Baliles. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER Chairman Brittle called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. The roll call was taken. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Alan H. Brittle; Vice-Chairman, Bob Johnson; Supervisors Harry C. Nickens, Steven A. McGraw, and Lee Garrett MEMBERS ABSENT: None IN RE: MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR Governor Gerald L. Baliles thanked Roanoke County for inviting him to visit the County and commended the County for the school system. He also congratulated the County on obtaining the Charter, noting that Roanoke County is the first county in the state to have a charter. The charter was signed by the Governor. Chairman Brittle presented resolutions of appreciation and Roanoke County baseball caps to the Honorable William Hopkins and the Honorable C. Richard Cranwel1. Supervisor Brittle moved to approve the prepared resolution of appreciation for Mr. Hopkins. The motion was seconded by Supervisor Johnson. 59 ¿j March 26, 1986 RESOLUTION 3-26-86-82 OF APPRECIATION TO WILLIAM B. HOPKINS WHEREAS, William B. Hopkins is a noted attorney in the City of Roanoke; and WHEREAS, William B. Hopkins served for many years in the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and WHEREAS, William B. Hopkins provided invaluable advice and guidance in assisting Roanoke County in securing the first governmental charter for a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, hereby signifies its appreciation and the appreciation of the citizens of Roanoke County to William B. Hopkins for his invaluable efforts in assisting Roanoke County in securing the first governmental charter for a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On motion of Supervisor Brittle, seconded by Supervisor Johnson and upon the following roll call vote: AYES: Supervisors Nickens, McGraw, Garrett, Johnson, and Brittle NAYS: None Supervisor Brittle moved to approve the prepared resolution of appreciation for Mr. Cranwell. The motion was seconded by Supervisor Johnson. RESOLUTION 3-26-86-83 OF APPRECIATION TO C. RICHARD CRANWELL WHEREAS, C. Richard Cranwell is the delegate to the Virginia General Assembly representing the Town of Vinton and Roanoke County; and WHEREAS, C. Richard Cranwell has been a long-time friend and supporter of Roanoke County; and WHEREAS, C. Richard Cranwell was most instrumental in assisting Roanoke County in securing a governmental charter from the General Assembly during its 1986 session; and ""- ~ 594· March 26, 1986 WHEREAS, C. Richard Cranwe11 also provided invaluable suggestions as to the form and content of the draft charter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, hereby signifies its appreciation and the appreciation of the citizens of Roanoke County to C. Richard Cranwell for his invaluable efforts in assisting Roanoke County in securing the first governmental charter for a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On motion of Supervisor Brittle, seconded by Supervisor Johnson and the following roll call vote: AYES: Supervisors Nickens, McGraw, Garrett, Johnson, and Brittle NAYS: None Supervisor Brittle presented an original watercolor by Eric Fitzpatrick and a Roanoke County baseball cap to the Governor.
