5/19/1986 - Special (3) .~ , 66~ May 19, 1986 I Roanoke County Board of Supervisors Roanoke County Administration Center 3738 Brambleton Avenue, SW Roanoke, Virginia 24015 May 19, 1986 The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day at the Roanoke County Administration Center, this being the an adjourned meeting from May 13, 1986 Board of Supervisors meeting. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER Chairman Brittle called the meeting to order at 4:03 I p.m. The roll call was taken. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Alan H. Brittle; Vice-Chairman Bob Johnson; Supervisors Steven A. McGraw, Harry C. Nickens, and Lee Garrett MEMBERS ABSENT: None IN RE: MEETING WITH SENATOR TRIBLE Chairman Brittle welcomed Senator Trible to Roanoke County and thanked him for meeting with the Board. He presented an outline of major topics facing Roanoke County which include areas in which Senator Trible may be able to offer assistance to the County. A copy of this outline is included in the packet of I the Deputy Clerk. The Board discussed possible assistance in funding of the Regional Airport, the regional water situation, possible influence and advice in obtaining the MSA designation in 1990, help in implementing flood control measures, the flood of 1985, assistance in supporting the continuation of the 5 cent (5¢) tax on gasoline for the Surface Transportation Assistance ~ ~ 669 May 19, 1986 Act, leadership in removing the provisions of Gramm-Rudman from the STAA, help in retaining the tax exempt status for municipal financing, and effective dates of legislation and federal policy. Alfred C. Anderson, Treasurer for Roanoke County, I reported to Senator Trible the problems facing the County and surrounding localities on having to file Form 1099 to the Internal Revenue Service and to citizens. Mr. Anderson felt that this form is a waste of money since the majority of Roanoke County citizens do not need this information. Senator Trible reported to the Board that he would be happy to assist the County in any way possible and that it was imperative that the Board remain in contact with his office. He also reported to Mr. Anderson that the Senate Finance Committee has met and determined that the 1099 is required for income taxes and since local governments do not impose an income tax, the filing of the 1099 is not necessary. I Supervisor Garrett also inquired about the problem with the limits of liability regarding insurance. Supervisor Johnson thanked Senator Trible for meeting with the Board and presented him with a Roanoke County Baseball cap and a Roanoke County lapel pin. IN RE: ADJOURNMENT Chairman Brittle announced that the Work Session scheduled for May 20, 1986, has been cancelled.
