1/28/1982 - Special 1-28-82 276 Board of Supervisors Salem-Roanoke County Civic Center Salem, Virginia January 28, 1982 The Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia, met this day in a joint session with the Roanoke County School Board in the Salem-Roanoke County Civic Center, Salem, Virginia, this being a special meeting of the Board. IN RE: CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by County Board Chairman Edward C. Park, Jr. at 6:30 p.m. IN RE: INVOCATION Invocation was offered by John Chambliss, Director of Finance. IN RE: ATTENDANCE Members of the Board of Supervi.sors present were: Chairman Edward C. Park, Jr., Vice-Chairman Athena E. Burton, and Supervisors May W. Johnson, and Gary J. Minter. Absent was Supervisor Robert E. Myers. County Staff members present were: Donald R. Flanders, County Administrator; John Chambliss, Director of Finance and Tim Gubala, County Planner. Chairman Park called on County School Board Chairman Dr. Harry Nickens to make a presentation after welcoming the School Board members and staff to this meeting which Chairman Park stated he hoped would be a forerunner to a good working relationship between the two Boards. School Board Chairman Nickens expressed his gratitude at the County Board's invitation to meet. He felt important matters regarding funding for school operations must be addressed as we approach the new budget year. Chairman Park then called on Superintendent Bayes Wilson who with school staff, presented information relative to the school system's rankings of scholastic and financial matters. 1-28-82 277 Chairman Park then called on County Administrator Flanders who with county staff presented the financial setting of county government as the County enters the budget process for 1982-83. Following those presentations, Supervisor Burton moved that the County Board go into executive session with the school board and staff to discuss legal, personnel and real estate matters. The motion was carried by unanimous voice vote. The meeting was then recessed into executive session at 9:35 p.m. IN RE: OPEN SESSION On motion of Supervisor Johnson and a unanimous voice vote, the meeting resumed in open session at 11:06 p.m. IN RE: ADJOURNMENT On motion of Supervisor Johnson and a unanimous voice vote, the meeting adjourned at 11:06 p.m. 6t
