He stated he believes the health and human service agencies are vital to the well being of those people who need 154 March 20, 2012 it the most. He stated he is honored to be a part of a Board of Supervisors that tries to take an active part in doing the best it can to make these organizations function even better. The Board will give them its best effort and thinks what they do is super critical and know the people served can attest to that. He commented it is an honorable function of the County Board of Supervisors to be able to hear, recognize and to the best of their ability to help these agencies. Supervisor Elswick commented he really appreciates all of these agencies do and it reminds him of where he grew up in Eastern Kentucky and did not have a lot of money and the money that came from the government, what they called commodities, was greatly appreciated because they did not have much else. He stated he is glad the Board does this and hears what all these agencies are doing and it is a vivid reminder of where you could be and how much help you might need yourself if there were different circumstances. Supervisor Flora stated to follow -up and continue on the same theme, the agencies that the Board heard tonight are those that fill the void that government is not able to do. Government cannot do it all, but when Roanoke County contributes to these agencies they are able to raise far more dollars than the County can ever give. They just fill that void: serve the people who fall through the cracks in many cases and are overlooked by the programs the government has and as both his colleagues have said these agencies are absolutely critical to those to whom absolutely need them. He thanked everyone that has come to the Board and will give them every consideration possible. IN RE: ADJOURNMENT Chairman Flora adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m. Submitted by: A" Deborah C.
