HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/19/2011 - MinutesBZA Members Present: Mr. Carlton Wright, Chairman Mr. Eric Thomas Mr. Kevin Barnes Mr. Richard Jones BZA Members Absent: Mr. Eldon Karr Staff Present: Mr. John Murphy, Secretary Mr. Joseph Obenshain, Senior Assistant County Attorney Ms. Susan Carter, Recording Secretary CALL TO ORDER Mr. Wright called the business meeting to order at 4:38 p.m. No public hearings were scheduled. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Mr. Jones made a motion to approve the agenda. Mr. Thomas seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Jones made a motion to approve the December 16, 2009, minutes. Mr. Barnes seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Mr. Wright made a motion that the 2010 officers remain the same for 2011, with Mr. Carlton Wright, Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals and Mr. Kevin Barnes, Vice- Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals. Mr. Jones seconded the motion which passed with a vote of 4-0. APPOINTMENT OF ALTERNATES Mr. Murphy was reappointed as Secretary for 2011 calendar year. Mr. Murphy recommended appointment of planning staff as alternate BZA Secretaries for 2011. Mr. Barnes made a motion to accept staff's recommendation. Mr. Thomas seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. APPROVAL OF 2011 SCHEDULE Mr. Barnes made a motion to approve the 2011 BZA schedule. Mr. Thomas seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS MINUTES JANUARY 19, 2011 COMMENTS Mr. Wright stated he plans to retire when his current term expires in 2012, having served on the Board of Zoning Appeals for approximately 35 years. Mr. Obenshain discussed possible security concerns and options with the board members. He also stated he will provide an update on legislation which has changed regarding guidelines used by the members. Mr. Thomas requested copies of changes for use at the next public hearing.
