PUBLIC HEARING - JANUARY 19, 2000

Mr. Wright called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Jones moved approval of the agenda.
Mr. Karr seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING REQUESTS
Variance requested by Sam Hardy of Section 30- 32- 3(A)1,a. of the Roanoke County
Zoning Ordinance to increase the width to depth ratio from 1 to 5 to 1 to 6.75. The
purpose of this request is to create a parcel 400 feet wide and 2,700 feet deep located
adjacent to 1345 Bottom Creek Lane, Windsor Hills Magisterial District.
Mr. Wright noted that the petitioner has officially withdrawn this request by letter dated
December 29, 1999.
2. Variance requested by the Roanoke County Department of Economic Development of
Section 30- 93- 13(E)3. of the Roanoke County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the
required separation between freestanding signs from 250 feet to72 feet. The purpose
of this request is to allow an additional sign located at 6900 Peters Creek Road,
Hollins Magisterial District.
The applicant asked for a postponement of this request due to the lack of a complete
Board in attendance. Under its bylaws, when all Board members are not present for a
hearing, the Board may offer any petitioner the opportunity to continue his/her request
until such time as all Board members are present.
Mr. Karr moved for a continuance of this case until the next hearing at which all
members of the Board of Zoning Appeals are in attendance. Mr. Jones seconded the
motion which carried with the following vote:
AYES: Karr, Jones, Wright

ABSENT: McNeil

Election of officers was postponed until February 16, 2000 when at least four Board members
will be in attendance. The proposed public hearing calendar was unanimously appoved.

Mr. Jones moved to approve the minutes of December 15, 1999.. Mr. Karr seconded the
motion which carried unanimously.

Mr„ Wright led discussion of the annual report which was unanimously approved.
Comments
The Chairman thanked staff for its reply to information requested on the Virginia Varsity Mini -
warehouse case and indicated that his concerns were addressed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m,
