HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/17/2001 - Minutes ROANOKE COUNTY BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS—MEETING MINUTES PUBLIC HEARING—OCTOBER 17, 2001 PRESENT: Mr. Eric Thomas Mr. Rodney McNeil Mr. Carlton Wright Mr. Richard Jones Mr. Timothy Beard, Secretary Ms, Tammi Wood, Recording Secretary ABSENT: Mr. Eldon Karr, Chairman Mr. Eric Thomas called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Mr. Jones moved to approve the agenda. The motion was seconded by Mr. Wright which carried unanimously. Mr. Thomas notified the petitioners that they may continue the petitions until the next hearing due to the absence of Mr. Karr. The petitioners declined. PUBLIC HEARING PETITION i 1. A variance requested by Richard& Virginia McFalls of Section 30-41-3(B)1.a. of the Roanoke County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the minimum front yard setback from 30 feet to 20 feet. The purpose of this request is to permit a front porch located at 5901 Darby Road,Hollins Magisterial District. Mr. Richard McFalls, 5901 Darby Road, stated that he was appearing to request a variance for his front porch. Mr. Wright made comments regarding the great inconvenience to the petitioners for something that had happened several years ago. He stated that the BZA wrestles with discrepancies periodically and wanted to send a message to the community that the County rules and regulations must be abided by, if not then the BZA has to make the decision to help out. Mr. McNeil questioned whether the two cases could be heard together due to the similar e nature of the two. Mr. Beard stated no. There were no comments. Mr. Carlton Wright motioned to grant the requested variance. Mr. Rodney McNeil seconded the motion. AYES: McNeil, Thomas, Wright NAYS: Jones ABSENT: Karr 2. A variance requested by Charles &Kathryn Martin, of Section 30-41-3(B)1.a. of the Roanoke County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the minimum front yard setback from 30 1 feet to 20 feet. The purpose of this request is to permit a front porch located at 5839 Darby Road, Hollins Magisterial District. Mr. Charles Martin, 5839 Darby Road, stated that he wanted to keep his front porch. There were no comments. Mr. Carlton Wright motioned to grant the requested variance. Mr. Eric Thomas seconded the motion. AYES: McNeil, Thomas,Wright NAYS: Jones ABSENT: Karr APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. McNeil moved to approve minutes of September 19, 2001. Mr. Jones seconded the motion.
