WORK SESSION
Mr. Henderson called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm.
Approval of Agenda
Mr. James made a motion to approve the agenda, which passed 5-0.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Bower made a motion to approve the minutes from October 3, 2023, which passed
3-0-2, with Mr. James and Mr. McMurray abstaining.
Discussion on the Roanoke County 200 Plan
Mr. Thompson noted that tonight they would be reviewing the Cave Spring, Glenvar,
and Bent Mountain Community Planning Areas. However, the majority of the work
session will be spent reviewing the Transportation section of the Roanoke County 200
Plan. Mr. Thompson presented the changes made to the Cave Spring, Glenvar, and
Bent Mountain documents.
Megan Cronise provided an overview of the draft of the Transportation Chapter of the
Roanoke County 200 Plan. Mr. Thompson advised the Planning Commission to take the
draft home, and to let staff know any comments that they wish to make.
Citizens Comments
There were none.
Comments of Planning Commissioners and Staff
Mr. Bower commented that he would like the Planning Commission to review and
consider making changes to the zoning ordinance for short term rentals. He explained

that due to the Board of Supervisors recent decision to deny a short term rental 5-0, has
had him thinking that changes may need to be made to the regulations,. Mr. Thompson
noted factors that he believed led the short term rental to be denied. Mr. James
suggested having a work session with the Board of Supervisors. Mr. Thompson noted
that staff is working on creating a form to be submitted with short term rentals that would
require the applicant to provide more information.
Mr. Thompson reminded the Planning Commission of upcoming events.
Mr. Woltz questioned if the Planning Commission should look into the zoning regarding
the Apple Valley Motel: Mr:Thompson noted that he would wait for a recommendation
from the Board of Supervisors before addressing that issue:

Mr. Henderson adjourned the meeting at 7:16 p.m.
