Mr. Rick James :... Mr. Jim Woltz Commissioners Absent: Mr. Kelly McMurray, Vice Chairman . Staff Present: Mr. Philip Thompson, Secretary Ms. Rachel Lower, Deputy County Attorney Ms. Marion Pickering, Recording Secretary Others Present Ms. Jennifer Chitwood, Infrastructure Services:Manager Mr. Joseph Sidor, Cyber Security Analyst WORK SESSION Mr. Henderson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Approval of Agenda Mr. James made a motion.to approve the agenda. The motion passed 4-0. Security Awareness Training for Planning Commissioners Mr. Joseph Sidor and Ms: Jennifer Chitwood presented the Security Awareness Foundations curriculum,which covered the following topics: cybercrime, security, privacy, malware, phishing, :social engineering, strong passwords. and multifactor identification, regular updates for mobile devices and other devices and software, malicious apps, public charging stations, physical security measures, security measures when working from home, social media awareness, and incident response. Mr. Sidor followed the presentation with more detailed instruction on security risks like phishing, smishing, vishing, spoofing, AI, fake.free public wi-fi, and incident reporting:processes. Mr. Thompson asked what happens if:the Commissioners accidentally click on something. in their County email address inbox on their personal device. Ms: Chitwood confirmed that the Roanoke County IT Department would assist and in such a case Commissioners. should contact the IT. Help Desk. She stated the County has an application that blocks spam emails very effectively but even so, all users should exercise every-precaution before ever clicking a link within an email. Mr. Woltz brought up the QR Codes on all his real estate signs and Mr. Sidor stated he would not recommend scanning them because a scammer could easily paste another QR code over the legitimate codes. Mr. Sidor distributed copies of Roanoke County's Security Awareness Training Policy, Cyber Security Policy, Password Management Policy, General User Access Policy, Access Control Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy to everyone for review. Mr. Thompson asked for clarification of the new password policies being developed which Mr. Sidor and Ms. Chitwood provided. Citizen's Comments There were none. Comments of Planning Commissioners and Planning Staff There were none. Adjournment Mr. Woltz motioned to adjourn the work session and the motion passed 4-0.
