The Mayor called the regular meeting to order
at 7-00 p.m. The Town Clerk called the roll with
Council Member McCarty, Council Member
Scheid, Council Member Stovall and Mayor Grose
present, Vice Mayor Liles was absent. Roll call

Under upcoming community events, Council
Member McCarty announced the following: June
8 — Mingle at the Market with Low Low Chariot —
Farmers Market; June 22 — Mingle at the Market
with Eric Wayne Duo and Faded Travelers —
Farmers Market and June 15 — 11:00 a.m. — 1:00
p.m. — Shake, Bake & Sprout — Farmers Market.

11nder awards, introductions, presentations,
the first item was recognition of the Vinton Fire &
EMS Department. The Town Manager read a
Proclamation honoring the Vinton Fire & EMS
Department. Council Members and the Mayor
next presented a personalized framed copy of the
Proclamation to each • the following employees
who were present at the meeting: Wayne King,
Kelly Stoots, William Crumpacker, David Rodgers,
Larry Whiting and Chris Linkous. They also
recognized those who were not present at the
meeting- Marrion Burden, Charles Dailey, Corey
Gee and Chad Helms. Deputy Chief Unkous and
the Mayor made closing comments.

Safety Month, Donna Collins made brief comments
and after additional comments from the Mayor, the
Proclamation was presented to Ms. •
Eddie Shelton from the Virginia Risk Sharing
Association (VRSA) commented on the success of
the Town's Safety Committee in reducing claims by
approximately 30% and presented a Certificate to
the Town in recognition of implementing a
sustainable Risk Management Program and
embracing the concept of risk sharing. Ms.Collins
introduced the other members of the Safety
Committee in attendance at the meeting: Captain
Fabricio Drumond, Amanda Ramirez, Chasity
Barbour and Bo Herndon along with Nathan
McClung, who was not present.
The Town Manager expressed appreciation to Ms.

The next item • the agenda was the Vinton
Area Chamber • Commerce report. Justin
Davison, Chamber President, reviewed a
PowerPoint presentation, which will be on file in the
Town Clerk's Office as a part of the permanent
record. His report included updates on
membership/sponsorship, community outreach,
the Grapes and Grains Festival and upcoming
events.
The Town Manager commented that as a result
of the recent shooting incident at Virginia Beach,
staff has met regarding security issues and will •
bringing back recommendations to Council at a
future meeting.

Richard W. Peters, Jr. to the Greater Roanoke
Transit Company Board for a new one-year term
beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020;
Barry W. Thompson to the Roanoke Valley-
Alleghany Regional Commission for a new three-
year term beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June
30, 2022 and Rob Lyon and Arthur (Bud) LaRoche
to the Roanoke Valley Greenway Commission for
new three-year terms beginning July 1, 2019 and
ending June 30, 2022. The motion was seconded
by Council Member Stovall and carried by the
following vote, with all members voting: Vote 4-0;

Anniversary Celebration on June 6th. He also
commented on the continuing work of the Housing
Management Team and the positive feedback he

Comments from Council: Council Member
McCarty commented on Valley Cryotherapy, a new
member of the Chamber of Commerce and
expressed appreciation to Town staff for the clean-
up from the recent storm. Council Member Stovall
also commented on the upcoming D-Day 751
