A new flag pole was installed at the
Vinton Police Department by
American Pride Flagpoles LLC.
McGruff was able to visit the
schools to say "hi" to the kids
being dropped off at school.
Our Officers tried their hardest to
make sure the children in our
community had memorable
birthdays.

The Vinton Police Department participated with W.E. Cundiff and Herman L. Horn
Elementary Schools in support of the "Angel Tree" program. Officers were able to
participate in the program by growing their "Santa beards" and selecting an Angel
Tree participant to spread holiday cheer during the Christmas season.

In August, the department was awarded the DMV Selective
Enforcement Alcohol Grant in the amount of $13,475.00 and
the DMV DUI Task Force Grant in the amount of $70,338.00.
The DMV Selective Enforcement Alcohol Grant reimburses the
town for overtime pay the officers earn facilitating checkpoints
and individual patrols during peak hours for impaired drivers.
The DMV DUI Task Force Grant funds a full-time patrol
position. This position also facilitates checkpoints and does
saturation patrols during peak hours for impaired drivers.
The Bulletproof Vest Partnership awarded the department
$2,286.00 to reimburse 50% of the cost of bulletproof
vests from 9/1/2021 - 8/31/2022.

In April, Chief Drumond presented the annual awards.
The awards received were earned from nominations and statistics from 2019.
Officer of the Year was
presented to
Detective Andrew DiCarlo.
This award is determined by
peer nomination.
Nominated by his peers,
Corporal Brandon Alterio
received the
Leadership Award.

For his efforts on May 26,
Officer Justin Baker received the Life
Saving Award. Officer Baker successfully
resuscitated an individual giving them a
second chance at life.
Corporal Jeremy Shrewsbury received the Drug
Safety Award, DUI Award, and the Traffic Safety
Award. Corporal Shrewsbury's statistics are as
followed: 24 drug cases, 20 DUI's, and 184
traffic safety related tickets.
Officer Christopher Shively was
awarded the Traffic Enforcement
Award. Officer Shively wrote 288 tickets
to enforce traffic laws.

On January 27, Jeremy Shrewsbury
was promoted to Corporal after
working for the department for 5
years.
Todd Bailey was promoted to Sergeant on
January 13. Sergeant Bailey has been with the
department since 2005.
N E W O F F I C E R S

Brandon Settles joined the
Vinton Police Department on
December 28. Officer Settles is new
to Law Enforcement and is eager to
protect and serve the Town.
On May 4, the Vinton Police Department
welcomed Officer William Holland to the Town.
Officer Holland came to the department from
Liberty University Police Department.
