As the Chief of Police of the Town of Vinton Police Department, it is my pleasure to present to you our
2023 Annual Report. Throughout the forthcoming pages, we will capture our proactive effort to make the
Town of Vinton a great place to eat, shop, live, and play. Year after year, our dedicated efforts aim to
improve the Town of Vinton through impactful intentional policing. As we strive to meet the needs of our
community and respond to crisis, we aim to make a positive impact on the lives of those in our region.
While we can celebrate many achievements this past year, we recognize much more work can be done in
response to the fast-paced world that we live in. There are many challenges in the national landscape that
Vinton is not impervious to. While many societal problems can be complex, the first step and at the heart
of any approach should be the conviction that compassion is not only a virtue, but also a strategic
necessity for building a framework that can stand up to the challenge.
Planning is essential to both the success and vitality of our town. Together, with valley agencies, our
department works to address mental health, violent crime, youth and senior outreach, and other issues
that impact our delicate social fabric. A recipe for success is understanding that many of the problems that
we face are better handled together, a collaborative effort. Many of the challenges we face do not stop or
begin at jurisdictional lines. The Vinton Police Department will continue to partner with those who elect to
improve the quality of life of our beloved Roanoke Valley.
Despite hiring challenges nationally, the Vinton Police Department has been able to both recruit and retain
a qualified workforce that mirrors the very community we serve. This success is largely due to a caring
community that supports law enforcement and leaders who emphasize the importance of providing
excellent policing.
The Vinton Police Department will always remain true to their badge by honoring our oath to our
community and by serving with valor, pride, and dedication. Our success is built around meaningful
dialogue, legitimacy, and trust. With that, we strive to be active participants in our communities and foster
the strong connection that we need to have a community that flourishes.
In closing, the Vinton Police Department will always remain true to its mission, lead with our service-
oriented hearts, and continue to earn the right to police and engage with the residents that we serve. We
have an amazing group of officers and administrative staff. Everything that we’ve achieved is because of
their collaborative effort to make Vinton a destination town.
